Belgium's national football team boasts a rich history of success in major international competitions. Since its founding in 1895, the team has participated in three quadrennial major football competitions: the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and the FIFA Confederations Cup.
FIFA World Cup
Belgium has appeared in the end stages of fourteen FIFA World Cups, with its best performance coming in 2018 when the team finished third. The Belgians have also reached the semi-finals on two other occasions (1986 and 2018) and have won third place in 1920 and 2002.
UEFA European Championship
Belgium has participated in six UEFA European Championships, with its best result being a runner-up finish in 1980. The team has also reached the semi-finals on two other occasions (1972 and 2016) and has finished third in 1976.
FIFA Confederations Cup
Belgium has appeared in one FIFA Confederations Cup, in 2018, where the team finished third. The Belgians have also reached the semi-finals once (2017) and have finished fourth in one other occasion (2015).
